Sisterly bond
Today i brought my grandma to visit my grand aunt at St Luke's Hopsital. What brought us to the attention? My grand aunt was lying on bed and was bedridden. She barely could not move let alone her arms. She felt uncomfortable and wanted to pull off the tube from her nose.
The tube attached to her nose is the feeding tube for the liquid food that she cannot eat solid food.
She seems worn out and thinner. She tried to talk to my grandma but my grand ma could not understand her.
When my grandma reached to her hands and hold, my grand aunt opened her eyes wide and tears fell on her cheeks. She blinked at my grandma. Strong sister bond passed through 2 women that moved me deeply.
Wrinkles on their face showed the stories in their life and they are very close despite 2 years difference.
They went through hardships, going through World War II, losing their only brother in war. Therefore in their later years, they faced hardship in keeping families together, running vegetable stall at Balestier Road. They enjoyed the fruits of their hard work only to lose the loved one in their own age.
My grand aunt lost her beloved 2nd grand child whose age was 24 years old. Her beloved grand child was only 24 years old who was bright student and a graduate from NUS. Losing her own grand child was a heavy blow to her that she was half paraysled.
My grand ma went through World War II to see her husband having second wife and lost her own son to heart attack in later years.
That's why they shared strong bond and understanding how they face hard ship and tears in their years. That moved me to tears.
My grand ma took my hands and told me " Achieving something is the achievement that you can enjoy and learn to be strong despite the hard time. Take this in stride and you will be strong in later years."
My grand ma talked to my grand aunt till my grand aunt fell sleep. My grand ma took a walk down, reminscing the memories and said to me, " Strength is what you have in you and us where we face hard times."
She walked with me to eat lunch. I looked at her face and could not believe how strong my grandma walked and chatted despite her old age. I knew that she was strong woman i ever admire. She took care of me when i was little girl. She dealt with many heavy blows that she remains strong till today.
She showed her positive side on life and remain simple in her perceptives on how things changed around her.
How would you cope with your life? Add colours to your life.....
